Robotics Club is a student group established in 2002 by graduate students from the Robotics Group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics in the University of Patras. The aim of the Robotics Club is to enable students from the University of Patras to learn about and get involved with cutting edge technologies such as robotics, automation, programming etc.
Today the club has several members and is located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics. Most of the members are undergraduate students from the Engineering school and particularly the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Since 2002 the club members designed and constructed several medium and small sized mobile robots and robotic manipulators. The line following robot series “Dromeas” has been distinguished in several international competitions.
Robots@UP voluntary initiative began in University of Patras in 2017. It was created and founded by members of the Robotics Group of University of Patras and undergraduate students of Robotics Club of University of Patras as well as scientists, parents of children, and passionate with robotics hobbyists. The aim was to transfer the technological knowledge created inside University of Patras Laboratories, in the context of the university’s extroversion and interaction with society. In its first year, Robots@UP had more than 50 students aged from 9 to 12 years old. In total, this initiative has had more than 200 students and more than 40 volunteers so far.
